Beyonce’ & I’m Not Quite Sure What Else

Beyonce’ and I’m Not Quite Sure What Else

I haven’t seen Beyonce’s “Lemonade” video so I can’t really comment on that. Yet. I did see here performance at halftime of the Super Bowl. But I was too befuddled with Coldplay’s performance and the strange stooping that Chris Martin was doing for the camera to have paid close enough attention to Beyonce’s performance. Wasn’t Bruno Mars there too? Was he doing that stooping thing too? I’m not sure, I don’t recall and I’ll leave it at that……  I do have a point here and I’m making my way to it shortly.

I personally perceive Beyonce’ as a talented singer, marketing wizard, and quite easy on the eyes. That’ my greatest and most in-depth analysis. Oh and she was ‘outstanding’ in “Dreamgirls”. My opinion and I don’t pretend to be a critic, nor do I want to….. And that’s not the ‘point’ yet.

Beyonce’ is a very powerful woman. She gets a lot of attention and will get a lot of attention without seeking it. She’s a celebrity and we are in an age of celebrity-itis! People will miss work to be a hundred yards away from a celebrity….(not much different from the 60’s Beatlemania now that I think about it).

Back to Beyonce’ and my point. It is a good point by the way.

I’m told here Superbowl performance smacked (first time I used that word in this way) racism and a salute to the Black Panthers.  Her video according to Piers Morgan shamelessly exploits the mother’s of Mike Brown and Trayvon Martin. I haven’t seen this yet but should they be a part of this video this far removed in time……I’d have to question its intent.

Beyonce’ could do so much more good than this to heal the divide between races rather than magnify it. I don’t need to see a video on the dangers of putting my hand in a fire, nor experience it to know that harm presents itself.  Beyonce’ could have her people write something that is more inspirational and overcoming and be a force for ‘unity’ rather than divisiveness. Other artist do, particularly those from the 60’s but they are basically preaching to the choir.

I can understand ‘superficially’ a blacks plight with being mistreated by police by my own experience. Police have an attitude of wanting to teach ‘certain peoples’ a ‘Lesson’. Frankly that’s not a good thing. And, that I’ll have to address a bit later in another posting.

Beyonce’ and her contemporaries are in a very powerful and strategic position of being able to have a positive impact on society’s future. On the eradicating of racism. On unity. On a new philosophical level of peace and its vital part of today and all the tomorrows that follows. This is the point. She and her contemporaries have that powerful position. Historical impact!  That no politician nor pseudopreacher can do.

Beyonce’. Use you celebrity and talent for peace and unity.

Peace, Love, and Beaches,

John
