The Excitement of Change!

The Excitement of Change!

I’m having a WOW time in my life right now……sort of pinch myself, this can’t be really happening to me….!!!!

But it is……and that’s GREAT!

I’ve been researching on retiring abroad and traveling.  At first, it seemed to be impossible. I figured it would be rather costly.  Come to find out….it’s as costly as I’d make it.

Sell the house and retire!  The Excitement of Change!

First thing I’d have to do is rid myself of my house.  When I realized this, I was taken back!!!  Where would I stay??  So I began looking for a residence with the least expense possible…..mobile home, shack, condominium, etc.  And each time I would recognize that I still would have an additional set of financial obligations that would burden me.

Without hitting the lottery or having some windfall inheritance from a long lost relative I couldn’t afford to travel, I’d have to sell my house and all my possessions.  Finally faced the reality.  A bit weird of a feeling at first but then a sense of freedom!

The excitement of change!

So, the house needs to be sold. Getting it ready to be sold was the most difficult part but when it was ready…….WOW!  Get this!!

The Excitement of Change!

I decided to sell my house on my own. a laugher I know.  After a lot of research, I went with the barest of the bare-bones sales approach I found. Simply list my house on MLS for 1 simple and complete fee of $99, using www.snapflatfee.com.  This also listed my house on multiple home sale sites such as Zillow, Trulia, etc.  All I had to do was to upload my pics, post a description and directions and boom, I’m done.

And this is what happened. I paid my fee on a Thursday and figured it wouldn’t be til Monday that the listing would show up (24 to 48 business hours). Well, it didn’t happen that way. The listing hit at 6:30 pm Friday, I got a call at 10 am Saturday, showed the house at 3:30 pm and agreed to contract at 7:30 pm for $499 less than my asking price! That’s right!!!

Everything from that moment has been smooth. Acquiring auto insurance in Mexico was a delightful surprise….a shade over $500 annually.  Acquiring Health insurance for multiple countries for about $170 per month. The quality of healthcare in a lot of the Central American countries is comparable to that of the U.S. or better.

I’ve found places to live starting at $325 a month……going as high as I feel comfortable with.  Most places already have electric and wifi along with being furnished, simple but furnished. Frankly, I’m not looking to own and lug any furniture around anymore.  A BIG key is to stay away from the tourist areas…..the mom and pop cafe’s I can buy a simple meal for $3 to 5!!  I can’t do that here.  Also, I’m not there to live according to my U.S. ways…..I want to experience their culture and lifestyle. Therein lies the adventure.

The excitement of change!

From there, I’m not sure where but wherever, it will be great!

Peace, Love, and Beaches,

John
