I’m There, But I Haven’t Arrived

What in the hell do I mean????

Well, I’ve been writing about leaving my job (done), selling my house (done) and moving to Mexico….that’s where I’m at, I just haven’t arrived at my appointed destination yet.  Right now it’s a toss up between Puerto Morelos and Playa del Carmen.

Puerto Morelos is a quaint fishing village between Cancun and Playa del Carmen on the shore of the Caribbean.  From everything I’ve read, and seen here on the internet it’s where I’d like to be.  So why not, why Playa del Carmen.  From what I’m able to tell, getting a place near the beach may be a challenge in Puerto Morelos as the main part of the city is a bit more inland and there doesn’t appear to be too much available on the beach and here comes their visitor season. I want to be near the beach. This isn’t a very commercialized area…..not the tourist destination that Playa, Cancun, and Cozumel are.  Availability of healthcare is …..well, it’s in Playa del Carmen and Cancun.  Hey, you never know!!  From what I gather it’s about a 20 to 30-minute drive……this isn’t the U.S.

Playa del Carmen, I like!!  You have a mix of tourist and locals.  It seems to work well for this place.  It’s also, directly across from the island of Cozumel.  There’s a boat ferry and a pedestrian ferry going back and forth multiple times a day.  Being closer to the beach is more likely.  The city is much larger and reaches to the beach.  Apartments and housing seem to be more plentiful too…..since it’s a larger city.  And healthcare is readily available……emergency healthcare.

I’m there, but I haven’t arrived!

By the way ……there really aren’t any health issue for our concern, just part of planning.

So, what’s it to be???

Well, I think Puerto Morelos needs to have a serious look taken at it….so, the exploration of this fishing village is a must.  I’m not sure for how long though as I need to have an address for immigrations!!!

I can’t overlook the dynamics of Playa del Carmen!  Many friends and relatives can make a short ‘how ya doing’ visit inexpensively on a short cruise.  Already have a friend arriving in February!!  Cool.  Banking would be a bit easier and adequate for my needs.  And of course, the beach is just as beautiful and just off shore is the 2nd largest barrier reef in the world!  I’ve dived it on my many visits to Cozumel over the years.

So there we have it!  I’m there, but I haven’t arrived.

Right now my ‘there’ place is Tampico….right on the gulf.  Just finished traveling through some of the mountainous areas of Northeaster Mexico.  I know this sounds silly but I was surprised!  Yeah, I knew about the mountain range in Mexico, just didn’t expect it from my entry point, Laredo, Texas.  I didn’t realize I was that close to Mexico City!!!

I look forward to saying I arrived!

Daybreak is approaching and it’s rainy.  So, breakfast and hit the road.  I’ll be back later.  Stay tuned!!

Peace, Love, and Beaches,

John
