There Are Things I’d Have Liked To Have Done

I guess we all say that, huh?

We’re still living…….we can still do!!  What’s stopping us?  Health?  Finances?  Geography? Loved ones?  Time? Fear?

I say there has to be some way to experience in some way that which we wanted to do but haven’t done yet!  I’m not sure of what the obstacles are in people’s lives as I’m contending with my own. And everyone’s situation and obstacles are unique to them.  I can’t make your go away and you can’t make mine.

There are things I’d have liked to have done, but…….

Here’s a simple glimpse at mine right now.

I made a BIG change in 2016.  I quit my job, I sold my house of 13 years, I’ve given away most all my belongings, and I’ve relocated to the Mexican Caribbean coast also known as the Riviera Maya.  And I did this to travel thru Central America and parts of South America.

So, what’s my obstacle?  It’s actually like fog, I can see it but it and it’s there but it is also easy to go thru.  Money.  I’m trying to keep things inexpensive.  I could easily just grab the first flight out, come back and repeat to another country.  But, I’m not interested in blowing thru money quite that fast…..I’ve still more life to live….at least I think.

Now, it really isn’t that simple.  Some of the flights are at weird times.  And get this…..(example) some places that aren’t but a few hundred miles takes nearly 24 hours to fly to!!!!  Lengthy lay overs in Mexico City, Ft. Lauderdale or Houston……..weird!  So, that I’ve accepted as part of the scheme of this travel thing.

Then there’s the timing.  Timing is important on a number of fronts.  I’m not inclined to be herded in with the tourist crowd so I’m picking off season travel times to certain countries….that right there brings down my cost.  What will further bring down my cost is to visit one country to another rather than coming back home and leaving out again.  That too is a timing issue along with flight availabilities on discount airlines.

Here’s another encumbrance I’m frustrated with and am trying to overcome.  It seems that if I want to go Caribbean Island Hopping that it isn’t simple or inexpensive.  All the major and minor airlines (just to fly less than 100 miles …….30 in some cases) will charge above $500 and it’ll take nearly 24 hours as they fly back to the states first, lay over and a new flight that shuttles me away for a 2am arrival in a foreign country.  That’s a bit much!!

But, I’m working this through.  I’m looking to make one-way flights to destination to destination accepting the odd travel hours and arrivals possibly adding in some buses from country to country.

All very much a challenge.

That’s my plight right there.

There are things I’d like to have done.

I’m working on them.

Your turn!  Get busy. Find a way.  Don’t leave your book unwritten, your song unsung before you shuffle off this dusty planet.

Peace, Love, and Beaches,

John
