How Important Are Our Expectations!

How Important Are Our Expectations!

So you say that if you have no expectations…..you eliminate disappointments.  Hmmmmmmm.

There’s something about the power of our expectations.  I don’t believe we pay close enough attention to the power aspect. More to the disappointing results of that expectation.

And there’s a clear reason for the disappointment experience.  We apply expectations where we shouldn’t.  That simple.

I know, you don’t misplace your expectations and you’re disappointed regularly you’ll defend.  And that’s exactly why you are disappointed.

For instance.  You pick your favorite numbers to play the lottery weekly and you don’t win.  You’re disappointed.  You just purchased a new software program that will boost the speed of your computer at startup but the program is making things slower!  You’re disappointed (besides, it’s a Windows computer).  Or you’re expecting your significant other to be on time for an event but that ain’t happening for any number of reasons. Now you’re disappointed.

Unfulfilled expectations liter our lives.  Perhaps we could issue a ‘recall’.

I’m thinking and I don’t recall being disappointed in me when any of those expectations aren’t met.  It’s always someone else or something else to blame.

How Important Are Our Expectations!

Think about a life of ‘no expectations’.  Without them things would be randomly happening that we’d be sorry or grateful for.  We wouldn’t know if a result or happening was for our benefit!

Expecting favorable results is ‘important’!  And there’s simple guidance to apply towards expectations.  Expect of yourself and your efforts. It’s what you can control.  You can’t control another person or a fluid situation.  But you have control of yourself and your efforts.  Will the results disappoint?  Depends.  Did you give your best effort?  Do you realize that your failure may be a part of the path to success?

Trusting someone else for results, your pleasure, approval, etc. is asking for disappointment.

Perhaps you’re dependable, you do things for people.  Sounds like you?  But they don’t in return!  That’s a bad expectation!  For me, I never do something expecting anything now or in the future in return for my good deed (hopefully it was good…hehehehe).  The process of life has it’s rewards, they’re plenty.  Just keep doing.

So expect of yourself is good, of others not so good.  We have control over our knowledge and effor., We have no control over others and bitching doesn’t count.

Then we have the levels and hopes of expectation.

Don’t allow disappointments to dictate and make you apprehensive of future results!  Take control!  You have that in your arsenal!!  Believe in what you want and put for your best efforts in acquiring!  You…..you can do this!

Live up to your personal expectations of yourself and only yourself. What disappointments come your way you hold yourself accountable for and increase your knowledge and adjust your effort accordingly. Your disappointments will occur more often then because of you misapplied your expectations.

Put your focus where it counts, on you!  Expect from yourself!

I hope this helps……

Peace, love, and beaches,

John
