I Simply Don’t Know Enough!

I Simply Don’t Know Enough!

It was like a revelation.  The words weren’t on the page I was reading but the thought rang loud and clear, “I simply don’t know enough!”.

Enough about what, John?

Enough about the things that interest me.

Those things that hold my mind captive.  I need to read more, explore more, experience more.

That’s music, writing and traveling (a healthy lifestyle too!).  All in a creative way.

It’s the creative aspect that lures me in.  But, I need to know more.

I recently read where the great investment guru Waren Buffet spends at his estimate, 80% of his day reading!  I found this in an interview published by CNBC (dated 16 November 2016). 80 freaking percent of his day???

In the interview, he specifically says, “Read 500 pages like this (pointing to a stack of books).  That’s how knowledge works.  It builds up like compound interest.  All of you can do it, but I guarantee not many of you will do it.”

So what happened with me here.

I was reading, just cracked open a book on my Kindle that I had downloaded a while back and I started reading the ‘Introduction’.  I got this thing about reading all the stuff printed before the first chapter!  Yeah I know that’s weird, but that’s just me.  If I don’t read it, I’m annoyed to the point that I stop reading the content of the book and go back to the first words.  Don’t get me wrong, I find this a bit aggravating of me.

Anyway.  As the thought of not knowing enough surfaced in my thoughts, the thing about Warren Buffet reading 80% of his day popped into my mind.  So, I did a bit of quick research (going to my favorite research tool http://www.duckduckgo.com and verified that, yeah he spends up to 80% of his day reading!

Taking a quick look at my Kindle library (it’s rather large) I find multiple books on music marketing, lyric writing, music publishing, ebook writing, WordPress, writing better and faster, thought process and organization. I also find books on travel, travel hacks, budget traveling, along with health books on dieting, exercise, cook books, anti-aging books, and books to help in downsizing and focusing my life.

Yep, I’ve got all of those and more……  Some I’ve read, some I’ve started and some I haven’t cracked open yet like the one that birthed this writing.  Which by the way is titled, “Achieve Anything In Just One Year”

Coffee goes well with my morning reading.

One thing that motivated me to get back to reading was the news.  I’m tired of what’s there to offer.  I’ve also grown weary of social media……other than for my endeavors and a few friends I’ve no use for it.  It’s pathetic!

Top this off with a bad experience with a website company on promoting my photographs and I figured my time could be better spent.

I’m always researching travel adventures and traveling methods……to the exhausting limit knowing I still haven’t found what I want.  I’ll continue that research until I find an answer, and then continue looking for more.  It’s an evolving issue…..interesting too!

This all (my interest and then my interest in reading on top of my interest) seems like a lot, but hey!  I’ve got a lot of time at hand.  Imagine, Warren Buffet reading up to 80% of his day!  Why can’t I???  I don’t need his wealth to accomplish reading up to 30% of my day and then move upward from there!  Being I’m an early riser my waken day runs about 18 hours a day.  30% of 18 is pushing 5 and a half hours ( 5 4/10’s).  That’s a challenge living on the Caribbean coast…..seriously.  Okay, it’s a challenge for me, but what isn’t!

Just removing much of my internet time……makes this easily accomplishable.  Replace my scrolling thru social media sites looking for cute cats, dogs, etc. and reading useless news stories and I’ve freed up more than enough time.

Plus, I’ll probably bring my clarity and diversity to my blog writing.

And there’s also my keen interest in my photography and publishing it.

Sort of makes me wonder where all the time for useless news and social media comes into play.  Well, its place will be limited.

All of this from reading the first few paragraphs to the introduction of a book.

Peace, love, and beaches,

John
