Baby, It’s Cold Outside!!!
Big deal, right? No, but YES!!!!
Yes, it is a BIG deal to me.
You see, when I say, “I can’t stand the cold weather…” I really mean, I can’t stand the cold weather! I don’t acclimate to cold anything except beer, rum runners, pina colada, etc.
Cold food isn’t too much of a problem. Cold pizza in the morning is just a wonderful part of life…..I like that. Cold macaroni and cheese isn’t a bad treat either. Name it food wise, and I’m probably okay with it cold. Fried chicken? Yes. Fried fish? Yes. You see, that’s a fairly broad spectrum of foods that I enjoy cold. So, there is a place for cold in my life.
I don’t like getting in cold water (that probably starts around 77 degrees). I find it uncomfortable, chilling experience and while I know that may sound strange, but there’s a logic to it that I will lead you to shortly…..just hang in there.
I’ve seen people get in the Gulf of Mexico when I lived in St. Petersburg, Florida…….in December, January, February, all the thru early to mid May! And I’ve always been dumbfounded by that! Notably, there’s an increase in the population during those months. Snowbirds and vacationers from up north and it seems they are the ones that venture into those cold waters because to them it’s warm from the waters and frozen lakes they have available up north.
But, I still just watch in amazement while sitting in my beach chair with a sweatsuit and jacket on in the 60-degree weather drinking an ice cold beer. It’s quite normal for me. Of course, shortly thereafter I’m finding an enclosed heated beach bar.
Baby, It’s Cold Outside!!!
Allow me to continue……
The air temp without much of a breeze, below 70 degrees is cold to me. Don’t add a breeze in there!! I don’t have that sort of clothing!!
Now, here, hopefully, will give you a better understanding. This is my firm logic to this ‘being cold’. I’ve lived the past 15 months on the Mexican coast of the Caribbean Sea. It’s hot and humid, it’s the ‘tropics’. It’s what I ‘love’. I didn’t have any sort of winter clothing. I didn’t have any long pants while living there and only one long sleeve (fishing) shirt which I think I wore twice just for the look, not because of the temperature.
Take me out of that environment and put me where it’s cold and I already don’t like those geographical locations because they get ‘too cold’ for me……I’m unhappy. Not an unhappy camper, because I don’t camp.
I guess you’re thinking….”JUST PUT ON CLOTHES”!!! I don’t own those types of clothes and don’t see the need for them……I like wearing very little clothes and honestly, would feel very comfortable anywhere without clothes (with the possible exception of a restaurant).
It’s me. I like me. Why should I change? I don’t mind change, but you’re not gonna convince me of how good and enjoyable cold weather is! You’re not! It’s not FUN for me!
But it is good weather for gumbo! I love gumbo and I’ll actually eat it in any weather at any time! I love gumbo!
From the cold north of South Louisiana…….
Peace, love, and beaches,
