I Read This Quote……
I read this quote attributed to Jeff Bezos of Amazon.com fame and it spoke to me. “Given a ten percent chance of a 100 times pay off, you should take that bet every time. But you’re still gonna be wrong nine times out of ten. We all know that if you swing for the fences, you’re going to strike out a lot, but you’re also going to hit some home runs. The difference between baseball and business, however, is that baseball has truncated outcome distribution. When you swing, no matter how well you connect with the ball, the most runs you can get is four. In business every once in a while, when you step up to the plate, you can score 1,000 runs.”
Yeah, I had heard of a similar quote but I couple this with a statement I recently read about treating life as a laboratory to run experiments. And this too brought my attention to living a bit freer and venture out to different experiences.
There’s a lot to do no matter where we find ourselves and I don’t believe it’s too late to get around to doing. It takes opportunity and want-to…..the how is in the doing. Something to consider is the size of the opportunity. Don’t mistake opportunity for something gargantuan…..your opportunity maybe somewhat smaller.
For instance, I’m in South Louisiana right now in the area I grew up in….but what is there that I’ve taken for granted and never explored? Nothing huge or even costly about that. Plus, I’ll probably learn something new about the area.
Less than 2 miles away is the Cinclare Sugar Mill which is now closed but looks to be well preserved. A visit is in the making.

There’s a number of famous and not so famous plantation homes surrounding this area…..I’ve got time and they ain’t going anywhere.
There is also south Louisiana food to consider; Cajun, Creole and Soul food…..yes, that’s a biggie down here.
Just up the road, a bit is a Mexican Resturaunt…..go figure.
So, I’m taking my own advice before venturing out abroad again. I’m looking for adventure in my present surroundings. See what I find and where it takes me.
Plus, I’m swinging for the fence with my upcoming CD. This will be interesting as I’m behind the 8 ball, equipment wise I’m at a disadvantage, but I’m optimistic enough to swing for the fence!
Hang in there with me…..more good stuff to come.
Peace, love, and beaches,
